Your favourite 19th century cartoon themes: Consider for a moment the thrill and valour of the Spider-Man, Transformers and Astro Boy theme songs, the memorable jigs of Maisy and SpongeBob SquarePants, or the exuberance and innocence of My Secret Valley, or Felix The Cat. Vintage Quartestra pay homage to some of the 20th Century's greatest, yet unsung, composers who took Saturday morning cartoons as their muse. These familiar tunes and hit cartoon theme songs will be re-arranged and performed live in the style of turn-of-the-century parlour music.

And genuine 19th Century parlour music: Vintage Quartestra is both a chamber orchestra and close-harmony vocal quartet – a carnivalesque musical balancing act presented by multi-instrumentalists and their voices. The Quartestra recreate the nostalgia of youth, the green grass of home, the love of parents, old friends, and good clean romance that glee clubs have been injecting into popular music since the first wax cylinders were produced. Under the direction of Lucian McGuiness, the Vintage Quartestra members take strings, brass, reeds, vocal chords and tongues-in-cheeks to paint a picture of moonlit vistas, flowers of the heart, and the warm embrace of a beloved home town.

Vintage Quartestra was featured at the 2013 and 2015 Sydney Festivals.
